Traffic Starting this Friday, September 1, 2017, to improve the weekend Ocean Drive pedestrian experience
The City of Miami Beach, in collaboration with Ocean Drive stakeholders, is launching a four-week pilot program to create a more friendly pedestrian experience along Ocean Drive. This iconic corridor will turn into a one-way street from Fifth to 11 streets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings starting at 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. the following morning. For this upcoming weekend, the pilot will remain in effect through Tuesday, September 5 at 5 a.m. due to the holiday.
“This pilot aims to add an additional five feet of the extended walkway for pedestrians to enjoy, and provides a safer experience along this portion,” said Redevelopment Specialist Amy Mehu, City of Miami Beach. “This was one of the many recommendations of the Mayor’s Ocean Drive Taskforce.”
During these weekend evening hours, all traffic will be southbound only. Cars are expected to naturally travel slowly and continually due to these restrictions. The success of the pilot will be evaluated on a weekly basis and modified as necessary.
Parking along Ocean Drive will be reduced on the eastbound side from Fifth to 11 streets, and visitors are encouraged to park at 7 Street, 13 Street or 16 Street parking garages on Collins Avenue. To view available parking spots in real time, download the Miami Beach ParkMe mobile application.
